Arithmetic sequences
Definition
Each term is the previous one plus the same number r, called the common difference.
Formula
General term: uₙ = u₀ + n × r.
Method
To show a sequence is arithmetic, work out uₙ₊₁ − uₙ: if the result doesn't depend on n, you're done.
Trap
Don't mix it up with a geometric sequence, where you always multiply by the same number.
